my car crash.

On august 16th I lost control of my car while speeding and hit a tree on lockhaven road in GOdfrey. I broke one of my legs in 6 places and the other in four. I broke my left arm, cracked my pelvis, and 2 vertibrae. My liver and stomache were bleeding. I had to be cut out of my 2002 ford taurus and airlifted to Mercy Hospital.THey put me into a comma for three days and when i woke I had a breathing tube down my throat. I used sign lanquage to communicate. The team of doctors had to do 5 different surgeries on me to reconstruct my legs. I have metal all over from the waist down.I had to wear cast on my legs until the middle of october. I couldn't do anything for myself. i couldn't even get to the bathroom. I had t obe lifted onto a comode after months of using a bed pan.I had to wear a cathetor home because my pelvis injury left me unable to urinate on my own.I layed on the couch for weeks and weeks. finally it was time for physical therapy. my legs would not bend or straighten all the way. They were compleatly stuck in one possition.now my left leg bends to about 80 degrees and straightens to about negative 30 degrees. I am getting a brace for that leg so it will straighten out. the doctor said it should take a year to straightrn itself. my right leg bends to about 95 degrees and straightens to about negative 10 degrees. my ankles are stuck in one possition. my left heel doesn't touch the ground when I stand. I can only walk about 20 feet with a walker and i put most of my weight through my arms. I can't push off of my left leg with out using my arms on the bars. I am still bound to a wheelchair 5 months later and will be bound to it for many more months. Learning to walk again has been a struggle. I have learned how to take care of myself though. I can transfer from the wheelchair to the couch, the car, the bathtub, and the toilet myself. I am very independent and thats how i like it.
